WHAT CAUGHT OUR ATTENTION MOST
Crypto Scammers Hack OpenAI’s Newsroom Account on X
OpenAI's account on X was reportedly hacked, promoting a fake cryptocurrency scheme and raising concerns over the growing frequency of crypto scams on social media platforms. The hackers used the account to promote a fraudulent cryptocurrency, taking advantage of unsuspecting users.
Fake Cryptocurrency Promotion: The hacked 'Newsmaker' account advertised a fake OpenAI crypto token called $OPENAI, directing users to a scam website.
Deceptive Tactics: The post promised users exclusive access to future beta programs and a share of the token’s initial supply, tricking them into connecting their cryptocurrency wallets.
Rising Crypto Scams: This breach is part of a larger trend, with crypto scams on X increasing by 45% in 2023, costing Americans $5.6 billion.
As these types of scams grow more frequent, it’s crucial to be cautious when engaging with cryptocurrency posts, even if they appear to be from trusted, high-profile accounts. Always verify sources to protect your personal information.

What’s Now Illegal Under New California's AI Laws
California is leading the charge in regulating artificial intelligence, with Governor Gavin Newsom reviewing 38 AI-related bills aimed at addressing the ethical, social, and political challenges posed by AI technologies. As of now, nine of these bills have been signed into law, establishing some of the toughest AI regulations in the U.S. Here’s a breakdown of what’s already been made illegal under California’s new AI laws:
AI Robocalls: A new law requires AI-generated robocalls to disclose their use of AI voices. This law aims to prevent voter confusion like the deepfake robocall mimicking Joe Biden earlier this year (AB 2905).
Deepfake Nudes: Two laws criminalize blackmail involving AI-generated nude images and require social media platforms to create reporting channels for such content. Platforms must block and remove confirmed deepfakes (SB 926, SB 981).
Election Deepfakes: AI-generated deepfakes that could influence elections are now required to be labeled or removed by large online platforms. Social media users who post deceptive election-related deepfakes can also face legal consequences (AB 2655, AB 2839, AB 2355).
As California continues to navigate the risks and rewards of AI, Governor Newsom is expected to sign more bills in the coming weeks. Stay tuned for updates on how these regulations will shape the future of AI and protect against its misuse.
Meta’s AI Chatbot Gets Celebrity Voices: Judi Dench, John Cena, and More
Meta is taking a bold step in the generative AI race by giving its AI chatbot a new twist—celebrity voices. As part of its ongoing competition with companies like OpenAI and Google, Meta is introducing audio features that allow users to interact with its chatbot in the voices of famous actors. Here’s what to expect from this exciting update:
Celebrity Voices Launch: Meta's AI chatbot will soon feature the voices of stars like Judi Dench, John Cena, Kristen Bell, and more, with the feature rolling out across Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp in the U.S. and other English-speaking markets.
The AI Race: Meta is racing against tech giants OpenAI and Google to dominate the generative AI space by continuously enhancing its chatbot, aiming to provide a more immersive user experience.
Celebrity Collaborations: Meta secured deals with several celebrities for this project, with the voices becoming a key feature of its digital assistant, similar to efforts by OpenAI earlier this year.
With celebrity voices and enhanced AI capabilities, Meta is positioning itself as a key player in the AI chatbot space. As these updates roll out, users can look forward to more personalized and interactive experiences across Meta’s apps, marking another milestone in the race for AI innovation.
UAE Strengthens AI Ties with the US in Strategic Talks
UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed met with US President Joe Biden in Washington to advance AI collaboration, solidifying the UAE's ambitions to become a leader in AI technology.
AI Partnership: The UAE seeks to deepen ties with US companies, focusing on AI to reduce its reliance on oil.
Defense Partner Status: Biden announced the UAE’s new "major defense partner" status, enhancing security and military cooperation.
Export Challenges: The UAE faces hurdles in accessing US AI chips due to export restrictions but is working to resolve them.
Industry Collaboration: The UAE’s AI group G42 is partnering with US tech giants like Microsoft and Nvidia on AI initiatives.
This move strengthens AI ties and positions the UAE as a key player in the global AI race, despite current export challenges.
