Nvidia's Blackwell AI Chips Production Delays Due to Design Flaws

Nvidia has encountered a significant delay in the production of its "Blackwell" B200 AI chips. Nvidia's Blackwell B200 chips are crucial for the AI cloud landscape, and the delay highlights the complexities involved in producing cutting-edge technology.

  • Nvidia informed Microsoft and other cloud providers that the B200 AI chips will be delayed by at least three months due to a design flaw discovered late in the production process, as reported by The Information.

  • The B200 chips are the successors of the highly popular H100 chips, which are integral to the AI cloud landscape and have significantly boosted Nvidia's market value.

  • Nvidia plans to ramp up production in the second half of the year. However, large quantities of the Blackwell chips won't be shipped until the first quarter of next year.

  • Major tech companies, including Microsoft, Google, and Meta, have reportedly ordered "tens of billions of dollars" worth of these chips. The delay may affect their operations.

  • Nvidia is conducting new test runs with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company to address the design issues and ensure quality production.

  • This delay comes shortly after Nvidia announced that Blackwell-based products would be available from partners starting in 2024, marking the beginning of an annual AI chip release cycle. Competitors like AMD are also developing their own AI chips to enter the market.

Google Enhances Chrome with AI-Driven Google Lens Integration

Google is set to enhance its Chrome browser with a new AI-driven feature that integrates Google Lens capabilities for desktop users. The upcoming update will allow users to utilize Google Lens directly from the search bar, enabling seamless image and text searches.

Parisa Tabriz, Vice President of Chrome, explained that users will be able to click a Google Lens icon in the search box to activate a sidebar within the current tab. This will allow for "multisearch," combining text input with images selected through Google Lens. This streamlined process aims to eliminate the need to navigate away from the page or open a new tab.

Additionally, Google spokesperson Joshua Cruz stated that users in the United States will have access to Google’s AI-generated Overviews, providing additional context to search results. This feature will be exclusive to the US. Along with the Google Lens update, Google is introducing another AI-powered feature for Chrome users, further enhancing the browsing experience.

Meta Offers Hollywood Stars Millions for AI Voice Collaborations

The initiative involves Meta paying millions of dollars to celebrities to lend their voices to various AI applications. This strategy is designed to give Meta’s AI voice technology a more human-like quality and appeal, setting it apart in the competitive AI landscape.

The move reflects Meta’s commitment to advancing its AI capabilities and creating more immersive experiences. By collaborating with well-known figures from Hollywood, Meta hopes to push the boundaries of AI technology and offer users a more engaging and personalized interaction.

This development underscores the growing intersection between entertainment and technology, highlighting how companies are increasingly turning to A-list Hollywood personalities to drive innovation in AI.
